Tournaments were added to Fortnite this week adding a new competitive option to the game for all players.

The events will be held regularly and they will open to all players across all devices. Epic Games has held various tournaments already this year including their Fall Skirmish and Summer Skirmish events, but their in-game tournament mode will now make it possible for more players to get involved. In May this year Epic Games announced that it would provide $100m for Fortnite eSports tournament prize pools during the first year of competitive play.

Pins are awarded to players who reach a certain points target that is set for each tournament. It can be used to show your success in various events and you can gradually build up a collection if you perform well. Epic Games has revealed that in the future pins could help you advance to the next round of a tournament or help you qualify to win prizes. There will be some events that occur across multiple rounds which will require players to have earned a pin to qualify to compete in the next round.
